Whether they’re a home cook or a gourmet, this is the holiday gift guide for the cook in your life.
The Flavor Bible
For anyone who wants to take their cooking to the next level, The Flavor Bible is “the definitive guide to creating “deliciousness” in any dish.” It includes complimentary flavor combinations, as well as flavor clashes.
Fleur De Sel Sea Salt is a fancy finishing salt that enhances the flavor of any dish. I got it for my husband as a stocking stuffer last year, and we use it all the time.
Have you ever noticed that the chefs on cooking shows use salt boxes rather than salt shakers? It’s easier to control the amount of salt this way. Just slide the lid open, pinch some salt with your fingers, and sprinkle over the food. This one has different lid design options to make it more personal.
The Shun Premier Chef’s Knife is the perfect all-purpose knife. It’s made from layered Damascus steel with a hand-hammered finish. It’s a splurge, but it has a lifetime warranty.
Sous Vide Immersion Circulator
Another tool used by professional chefs is a Sous Vide cooker. This one attaches to the side of a large pot and cooks food slowly and with precision. Think steak, pork chops, chicken, even carrots. I have this one from Gourmia, but the Anova is more well-known.
We had a stockpot, but it never felt big enough. We finally upgraded to a larger one, and it’s so much better. We don’t have to worry about water boiling over when making pasta. I also use it for brewing kombucha.
Commercial Grade Half-Baking Sheet
The half-sheet size is large but will fit in standard ovens. We’ve had ours for as long as I can remember, and they’re holding up very well. I recommend commercial grade so it will last. We have 3 and use them all regularly, but 2 is probably enough.
Nesting Glass Bowls
I love having a bowl of every size so I always have what I need. These bowls are also great for mise en place.
Meal Kit Delivery
Meal kit delivery services are a great way to break out of the dinner rut. Each week, you receive the ingredients and recipes for (usually) 3 meals. We really liked Green Chef, which uses organic and sustainable ingredients. Use this referral link to get 4 free meals. Some other options are Hello Fresh, Sun Basket, and Blue Apron.
Taste Trunk has dozens of themed trunks that you can have delivered to anyone either on a monthly basis or just one time. Themes include The Gourmet Chef, The Healthy Chef, and The Taco Trunk. Receive a $10 new customer credit with this link, or 30% off themed subscriptions during the month of December with this link.
