Keeping a Gratitude Journal

I used to keep a gratitude journal, where I wrote something I was grateful for each morning. It was such a great way to start the day on a positive note, and it carried throughout my day. After I had my first baby, the journal got shoved in a drawer, forgotten between the lost sleep and a whirlwind out-of-state move.

Over the years, I was reminded of my old journal. I kept thinking about how I should return to my daily gratitude habit. What better time than now, during the season of giving thanks, to finally do it? So here I am, restarting a positive daily habit of gratitude.

Grateful

Since it’s my son’s birthday, today I am grateful to be a mother. It took awhile for us to get pregnant, so I thought it might never happen. Being a mother is challenging, to say the least, but I’m so grateful for the opportunity. My children have brought a whole new meaning to my life.

Gratitude Journal

If you want to make a positive change in your attitude, I highly recommend keeping a gratitude journal. It’s so simple and it only takes a couple minutes a day. Keep a journal on your nightstand and write your daily gratitude before you even get out of bed. Thinking of something you’re grateful for first thing in the morning starts your day on a positive note. You will have a more positive attitude throughout the day.

Gratitude is the one thing people have started losing. When it’s so easy to complain about everything, it’s easier to forget to just be thankful for everything that we have.

I had my son 10/26 (a few days ago pretty much) and we spent a week in the NICU. He was not breathing at birth. I was so scared that I was about to face the biggest challenge of my life. But God turned everything around and my son after a week is laying in his bed at home right now. I must say I am very thankful for this!

I like the thankful part, but I think the ‘blessed’ part is a little over used these days. Everyone is blessed in different ways and I think a lot of people use the word ‘blessed’ when they are showing off about their good fortune. Well at least that seems the way in Australia anyhow!

I was thinking about gratitude just today. I have been sweeping for a hobby and I love giving people things that I’ve won that I know they would like. Today I gave someone something and I could just tell I made his day. Big smile and even bigger thank you. I don’t do it for the thanks but it sure was nice to see that he really appreciated the gift. If someone goes out of their way to do something for me I’ll make sure I let them know how happy it made me too.

Gratitude is something myself as well as others need to work on.. being grateful and positive/happy everyday can get you somewhere. I tell my boyfriend this all the time! My mom was the one who suggested writing down a few things everyday that I’m grateful for – and it works.

Such a great idea! I am a firm believer in journaling, in fact I have taught both my girls to do so. Now as adults, they both keep journals!
